Thus, in order to achieve its vision of being a resource for all children, it has been necessary for The Ark to move beyond its physical premises in order to engage with children who are, for many reasons, unable to attend The Ark.
To this end, a Trust was established in 2000 to provide the financial and support base from which to carry out such work. The Trust raises significant funds from individuals, corporations, foundations and the public sector with which to finance this work.
Four programmes are in progress:
ark.ie (The Virtual Ark) is a dynamic, fully interactive website for and by children. more info
ArkMobile is the touring arm of the Ark. It brings theatre, workshops and exhibitions around the country to children who would not normally be able to take part in the programme in Dublin. more info
ArkLink provides programmes of activities to children in disadvantaged communities. Currently, the Ark is working on an intensive programme of activity in Fatima Mansions, Dublin 8. more info
Healing Ark brings arts activities to hospitals and to children who spend significant periods in hospital. HealingArk has already transformed large areas of Temple Street Childrens Hospital and is working with the designers of the builders of Crumlin Hospital to integrate exciting art works into the building as it is constructed. more info
A fifth project is being developed
Arkimedia is a project in which children can explore the territory where the arts meet high technology.
Tens of thousands of young people, who would not normally have been able to access the work of The Ark, have now been enabled to do so by The Trust.
