The Ark, A Cultural Centre for Children and Sligo Art Gallery present

Mandscape

An Exhibition of Artworks from the Ark’s Collection, curated by Founder-Director Martin Drury. At Sligo Art Gallery
Dates:  10 January–25 February
Times:  All
Prices: FREE
Opening Hours: 10am–5.30pm Monday – Saturday

Mandscape is the title of this exhibition a made-up word. You won’t find it in the dictionary.  The exhibition is called Mandscape because it is an exhibition of images of landscape where mankind is present, or where mankind has left his trace on the landscape. Landscape + Man = Mandscape.  That’s the theme of the exhibition, and every work in the show is a variation on that theme.

‘Mankind’, as you know, means all human beings, men and women, young and old. ‘Landscape’ can also be used in quite a wide sense. In this exhibition there are skyscapes and cityscapes as well as images of the land. All the work in the show was made by artists who are alive today. They are as interested in making images of the city and of buildings as they are of the natural landscape.

Featuring works by Brian Bourke, Brendan Neiland, Oliver Comerford, Clare Langan, Michael Durand, Daniel de Chenu, Martin Gale, Barbara Rae and Margaret McLoughlin.

Martin Drury selected this exhibition from the collection of The Ark, A Cultural Centre for Children, of which he was founder and first director.

He commissioned or purchased these works of art for various exhibitions and visual art programmes in The Ark during his time as director. For further information and booking please contact the Sligo Art Gallery, Tel: 071 9145847 or www.sligoartgallery.com
