As part of the annual Dublin Electronic Arts Festival, young people have the opportunity to take part in a fun, practical and hands-on workshop where you will record and play your own electronic music. Over the course of two days, all you budding electronic artists can learn how to use the recordings you make to write your own music and will work together to arrange and record your own compositions, which you can take home on a CD. Previous musical experience may help, but is by no means essential; only enthusiasm and a willingness to learn! The workshop is led by musician and producer Donal Tierney and features theremin-player Pamelia Kurstin. Used in popular music by groups such as The Beach Boys in the song Good Vibrations, the theremin is a unique musical instrument, which is played without actually being touched. The player moves his or her hands between two antennae, which control the pitch and volume creating surreal, unusual sounds. This is a unique opportunity for young people to experience an introduction to this incredible instrument with one of the world’s leading practitioners. Renowned theremin-player Pamelia Kurstin will perform live on Sunday afternoon at a unique concert for families. www.deafireland.com
