Rites of Passage is about being 12. Using theatre, art, music, dance and literature we plan to look at the moment when a child enters adolescence through a cultural lens.
During a 5 day workshop in April, participants will explore the ‘coming-of-age’ rituals of different cultures from around the world and then create their own ritual. This will act as source material for a full-scale theatre production later in 2007.
Ambitious in its scale and values, Rites of Passage aims to acknowledge the challenges in children’s lives today, as they enter adolescence, while inspiring and empowering them through cultural expression.
