The Ark, A Cultural Centre for Children and Trinity Access Programme present

Bookmarks

Class range: Fifth Class
Dates:  Six weeks from 30 January

Every picture tells a story... so what is yours? This Spring Bookmarks will inspire 11–13 year olds to awaken their imaginations through the creation of their very own modern fairytale or fable.

Bookmarks is a highly accessible illustration, story-writing and bookbinding workshop which will encourage the participating children to use Trinity College’s fascinating Pollard Collection of Children’s Literature to inspire their own creativity and to discover what it was like to grow up from the 17th to the early 20th centuries.

Over the six weeks artists Liz Smith and Laura De Búrca will guide students from St. James Senior NS, Dublin 8, St. Ann’s NS Tallaght and Assumption Senior NS Walkinstown, through becoming authors and illustrators. The children will have the opportunity to use a wide range of high quality professional art materials as well as learning the craft of storytelling. An exhibition of the children’s books in Trinity College will conclude the project. This programme has been made possible with support from the O’Connell Boys Trust through the Trinity Foundation,Trinity College Dublin.
